Summer is here and at the La La Rookh Workshop we ramp up the sewing here to monumental levels…. Children can come and play all day making and creating. We have mountains of projects to choose from… Spaces are limited because we limit the numbers to 5 children a day. So the dates for this year are:
The classes book quickly but I always have cancellations and shifting about so it is worth calling throughout the summer weeks to see if I have spaces on the day …
Ok, booking terms: Its £40.00 for the days class, this includes most haberdashery etc , and like termly classes there is a lot of free fabrics to choose from for small projects. If your child would like to make a garment that requires more than one metre, then there will be a charge for fabric (but I do try to steer them in the free fabric section) , you are welcome to bring fabrics from home also.
To book call Anna on 07545757592 .. and reserve your spaces by paying for them with a 50% deposit. I am unable to reserve them without payment due to cancellations and being unable to fill cancellations on the day. I hope you all understand… however I do have a cancellation policy, if you give me 3 days notice I can postpone or swap days or refund payments in full.
What is not to love here for us sewing enthusiasts. Our local luxurious cinema Kino Teatr is hosting this film.. I have hijacked it, and turned it into a ‘meet up with fellow sewers’ fest. Its been my plan to see it for weeks now and I’m a sucker for anything that, 1. Reminds me of home (Australia) and 2. Involves a romantic spin on sewing (because well sewing day in and day out to steep deadlines can seem like just plain drudgery at times. 3. Liam Hemsworth’s naked torso is a bonus but I’m far more interested in the dresses actually).. If you would like to come then look here on the facebook events page and it will direct you to the Kino Teatr website and you can buy tickets online (£9.00) … we will troop en masse to The St Leonard pub after for a debrief. Please join us on the 26th March 7pm in (currently) wet and wild St Leonards on Sea.
Summer Is Busy … Festivals, School Holidays, Weddings … BBQ’s .. and more BBQ’s, and its difficult to commit to courses that last for weeks. So I am offering one day courses and weekender courses at The Sewing Parlour throughout the summer months. So all the studio favourites, Absolute Beginners, Vintage Dressmaking, Introduction to Dressmaking … are all running over the weekends of July and August. and if one day is not enough for you .. you can also attend the Bring Your Own Project evening on a Tuesday to top up your skills… here’s a little calender for July and August. more details will follow soon.
There are all new courses starting from 25th April and a new program is published on the ‘Workshop’ page, I am always trying to accommodate peoples availability and have added new evenings to the program. There is a permanent dressmaking evening course running every Tuesday now, bookable at 4 weekly intervals at £80… AND … I am excited to announce that after many, many enquiries and a flurry of excitement about all things sewing (Thank you to The great British Sewing Bee for this) I am finally able to start a group for young sewers.. from 10 – 15 years on a Wednesday afternoon (after school) from 4 – 5:30pm the session costs £8. I will offer all kinds of projects from garment construction, fabric printing and craft projects… The Bring Your Own Project class is back up and running on Friday afternoons again from 2-4pm ( and this will start from 25th April).
Do look out for one off courses and events happening, we ran a very successful 1 day, Learn to Cover a Lampshade course a couple of weeks ago with Charlotte Elfdahl and will definitely run another in the near future so if your interested do enquire. Here’s a little photographic synopsis of the day…..
The Sewing Parlour is decamping to Bexhill on sea’s De La Warr Pavllion for the Fashion event Front Row Fashion Show 2013 Gods and Monsters…on the 30th November (which is tomorrow folks!). We are upping sticks and creating a workshop in the foyer and I have devised little projects that you can create on the night.

I am very excited to announce that we have new courses starting from November 1st. I have been away for some time, due to a crumby house purchase and subsequent renovation job … that bascially floored us totally. So a 1 year and 4 months later, after spending months knee deep in rubble and coated in building dust we have finally moved in. Whilst the house is only half done, at least we have walls and floors and I can take a D.I.Y hiatus, setting down that paint brush and taking up a needle (I do not want to see another rubble bag or mix another bucket of cement ever again). Now, what has happened while I was away from my desk… the Great British Sewing Bee darn it… and as a result my phone has been ringing, it’s been too frustrating for words. So for all you budding sewers or experienced seamstresses we have a program of courses that is for everyone. … Take a look at the WORKSHOP tag in the header up there and see if anything takes your fancy. Whilst I begin with these courses I will be adding and updating all the time … I aim to start a Young Sewers course and will perhaps pilot that during the school holidays – so watch this space. The studio will be open from November, so come and browse new pattern stock and haberdashery too. Pop in for a cuppa and chat over your ideas and projects. We have some exciting events in the pipeline so I’ll keep posting here for details. … and .. I want to say a huge THANK YOU to those of you, friends and sewing comrades that have supported us through the house reno from hell… I can’t wait to get back to work.
